Well, the premise for the new one is pretty much entirely different. In old Changeling, characters were the mortal-ish reincarnations of undying Faerie souls, yadda yadda. Now, those undying Faeries are the bad guys, inhuman monsters who kidnap normal people and make them do any number of things in their nightmare-dreamworlds. The changes that the humans undergo to serve their masters, and to survive in the harsh unreality of the Fae realm turn them into Changelings. Players are Changelings who escaped or were capriciously set free by the Faeries, and are now in the mortal world, but are still partially inhuman from their time in servitude.

The primary goal of the game is now not to get rekidnapped by Faeries and taken back to Arcadia. For some, this means hiding, others are selfless and want to protect others from the Fae, and others want to try and rally their power to destroy the Fae. Definitely not as light-hearted as the first one.
